Welcome to my personal website, where you'll learn a bit more about me and my life's journey. I've always been a tech enthusiast – from tinkering with a C64 as a teenager to working on various software projects throughout my career.
I love spending summers at the cottage in Haliburton with my partner Jess, hanging out with my beagle (@elvisrufflife) and playing piano.
Born in Australia, I spent my early years in the small town of Kurri Kurri, NSW. I was known as the local computer repair guy, and this experience led me to work at a traveling computer market selling replica ink cartridges. While attending college, I expanded my expertise by buying and selling laser printers.
However, my true passion was in software. My first significant project was creating an online training system for a risk management consultancy in 2006-2008. This experience taught me the value of hard work and perseverance.
In 2012, I co-founded Checkout 51, a tech-enabled marketing company in the packaged goods space, which we sold to News Corporation in 2016. After taking some time off to travel and renovate a house, I joined Top Hat in 2019, where I worked on creating a growth narrative and preparing for an IPO or private equity deal.
In 2021, I briefly worked on Gadze Finance with Top Hat's founder, Mike Silagadze, but soon realized that the world of finance wasn't for me. Instead, I decided to pursue my passion project, MappedBy.com. This platform aims to provide crucial data to help users make informed decisions during real estate transactions – something I felt was missing as I went through my own property purchases and sales.
As of 2023, I find myself eager to take on new challenges and explore exciting opportunities. When it comes to my strengths, I consider myself skilled in:
- Building software: I enjoy being hands-on and engaging with all stages of the process.
- Managing teams of 5-20 people: I have a knack for leading small, highly efficient teams.
- Problem-solving: Be it software development or DIY renovation projects, I love finding solutions.
- Connecting with people: I'm adept at bridging gaps between various departments and fostering collaboration.
- Admitting imperfections: I've learned to acknowledge my mistakes and grow from them.
If you're working on something interesting, I'd love to hear about it! Feel free to reach out if there's any way I can be of assistance. I'm always open to new ideas and eager to contribute my skills and experience to help bring them to life.
